§ 14-134. Fire prevention and inspections.

  • (a)

    The fire chief and designated fire inspectors are responsible for all inspections within the Town of Ixonia and covered contracted territories in the Town of Concord and Town of Watertown. All public buildings or places of employment shall have semi-annual fire prevention inspections.

    Violations will be so noted, documented and reported to the owner(s) of the building(s) by the duly authorized fire inspector and arrangements will be made to correct the violations and re-inspection made to verify compliance of corrective actions.

    In the event of noted and documented fire inspection violations are not corrected on the second inspection, notice will be given and a third fire inspection will be required after the violation(s) have been corrected in the agreed time frame.

    (b)

    There is an annual inspection fee for those properties within the town and contracted territories. The annual fire inspection fee is invoiced on or before July 31 each year. Any fees remaining unpaid as of November 1 of each year shall be placed on the annual tax roll for collection as a special charge together with an administrative charge of $25.00 per parcel. All proceedings related to the collection of real estate taxes shall apply.

    The service includes a primary inspection and one re-inspection to follow up on any corrections which needed to be completed within the time ordered by the fire inspector. After the re-inspection and the time for corrective action has passed, any property in violation shall be assessed for all additional re-inspections needed until the corrections have been made.

    If violations are not corrected by the fourth inspection, additional action may be taken which may include a possible closure of the building should the violation warrant in the interest of public safety. Fees for this re-inspection will be determined by the Town of Ixonia Town Board and will be billed to the property owner of the building.

    New construction, renovation or remodeling of public buildings. Any new construction, renovation or remodeling of public buildings or places of employment where plan reviews will be conducted. A fee of $200.00 will be required and will be billed to the property owner.

    Fire investigation and cause determination. Any fire investigation and cause determination required or approved by the Ixonia Fire Chief will be billed $75.00 per hour plus expenses.
